Tie Series 2003
This project works with self-imagery and performance while focusing on gender, attitude,
movement and expression. The photographs relate to one another interactively creating a
visual story line using body language, theatrics and the feeling of time passing. The
images are printed and framed in black frames to invoke a since of film-still quality. Each photograph is somewhat different from one another emphasizing on the slight
movement of the character and evoking the feeling of time passing. The images were
created utilizing a white background, creating a space for the viewer to focus on the
character, expression and story line within the series of photographs.
The images were shot in a square format and measure 16X16”. A total of six
photographs will be displayed as a group hung in a line spaced three inches apart. The
idea for this project comes from Warhol’s alter-ego photographs taken by Christopher Makos in white spaces and in photo booths. Warhol inspires me because of how vulnerable he was in front of the camera and overcoming all his personal defects, letting them go and taking the picture anyway.
